THE CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM

2007 UNIVERSITY LEVEL TRUSTEES RESEARCH AWARD

May 10, 2007

WHEREAS,       Through BR#06-06, the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut State University System reaffirmed its commitment to promote an environment that supports and recognizes faculty scholarly activities in their academic fields, and

WHEREAS,       The Trustees of the Connecticut State University System established five research awards annually: one university award to a faculty member from each of the CSUS universities and a single system award, chosen among the four university awards, to the faculty member whose work best exemplifies high quality research/creative achievement throughout the entire CSUS, and

WHEREAS,       The awards are designated for assistant or associate professors in good standing with the university who are doing research/creative work of exceptional promise and hold tenure-track or tenure positions upon nomination by colleagues,  departments, schools, and/or self nomination and who demonstrate substantive contributions, achievements and scholarly activity in their field during the last five years, and

WHEREAS,       Ms. Brownell, Associate Professor of Art in the Department of Art at Southern Connecticut State University, has been recognized for her creative research in the art and tradition of still life painting combining Old Master realism and Modern Master abstraction techniques and including 8 solo exhibits in recognized art museums and galleries, 64 group exhibits, 18 visiting artist lectures and panels and numerous articles in national and regional newspapers and specialized magazines, and

WHEREAS,       Ms. Brownell has been selected by an appropriate peer-review process at SCSU and recommended to the System Review Committee of CSU University Professors, therefore be it

RESOLVED,      That the Board of Trustees for the Connecticut State University System commends Ms. Brownell for her academic and research achievements, congratulates her on receipt of the University Level Trustees Research Award and extends its best wishes for continued success in her academic endeavors, and be it further

RESOLVED,      That the Chancellor of the Connecticut State University System will work with the university Presidents to ensure maximum visibility to this award through local and statewide print and electronic media.
