RESOLUTION
CONCERNING
WAIVER OF TUITION AND REQUIRED FEES
FOR STUDENTS FROM CONNECTICUT DISPLACED BY HURRICANE KATRINA
September 7, 2005
WHEREAS, The Board pursuant to its statutory authority - Sec.10a-99 of the Connecticut General Statutes (CGS) - "…shall fix fees for tuition and shall fix fees for such other purposes as the board deems necessary at the university…", and
WHEREAS, Tuition and fee waivers are provided to qualified students under certain circumstances, and
WHEREAS, Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath have resulted in temporary closure of several universities in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, and
WHEREAS, The Board of Trustees for the Connecticut State University System, as well as the System's faculty, staff, and students wish to assist those students from Connecticut who may be facing a delay in their education as a result of these temporary closures, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That students from Connecticut enrolled for the fall 2005 semester as bona fide full-time students at institutions of higher education in the Gulf Coast areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama temporarily closed as a result of Hurricane Katrina are welcome to enroll as full-time students at any of the CSU universities to avoid interruption of their studies, and be it further
RESOLVED, That for the fall 2005 semester, tuition and required fees (defined as tuition, university general fee, university fee, information technology fee, student activity fee, and, if applicable, media fee) as well as the application fee and any applicable late fees, shall be waived for these students.
