WHEREAS,   The Connecticut State University System Foundation has voted to confer its 2005 Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award on 12 graduating Connecticut State University System undergraduate students, and

WHEREAS,   The 12 recipients have been selected from approximately 4,000 graduating seniors, and

WHEREAS,   The criteria for selection for this award include service to family, university or community, as well as outstanding academic achievement, and

WHEREAS,   Brittany Bonchuk, who will graduate from Central Connecticut State University Connecticut State University with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work, has been co-president of the Social Work Club; a member of the CCSU Floor Council; a member of the cheerleading squad; a CCSU student representative in her travels to Italy and Greece; an intern in a variety of campus and community organizations; and a volunteer for the Special Olympic Games, the National Diabetes Association, AIDS Project Hartford and the American Cancer Society, and

WHEREAS,   Brittany Bonchuk has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award, therefore, be it

RESOLVED,   That the Board of Trustees for the Connecticut State University System commends Brittany Bonchuk for her academic and service achievements, congratulates her on receipt of the Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award, and extends its best wishes for a happy and successful future.

WHEREAS,   Jennifer Healy, who will graduate from Central Connecticut State University Connecticut State University with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, has been a member of the biology club, a participant in the Eastern Colleges Science Conference; a wildlife specialist and volunteer for Envirothon; a volunteer for River Walks; a workshop presenter for White Memorial Foundation; and a volunteer to the Litchfield Lions Club, Habitat for Humanity and a local soup kitchen, and

WHEREAS,   Jennifer Healy has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award, therefore, be it

WHEREAS,   Rebecca Johnson has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award, therefore, be it

WHEREAS,   Laura Urban, who will graduate from Central Connecticut State University Connecticut State University with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology, served as a United Way team-captain and site coordinator for General Electric Avon, helping clean up the Grow Hartford gardens that support children's farming education; volunteered through the Safeguard Project to make the Community Renewal Team and Salvation Army Daycare in Hartford safer and cleaner; volunteered at the Mystic Seaport Archeology Dig; served as a counselor for the Hartford Inner-City Camp Project, helping develop the first Lutheran camp project in Hartford; and traveled, worked and lived in several foreign communities, and

WHEREAS,   Laura Urban has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award, therefore, be it

WHEREAS,   Robyn Rodriguez, who will graduate from Eastern Connecticut State University Connecticut State University with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science, has been a member of the Honors Club; the History Club; the national political science honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha; the College Bowl history team; studied Latin, French and German; traveled to Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, England and Spain; volunteered at Jonathan Trumbull Library; donated her time to the Special Olympics; and coordinated gymnastics demonstrations at Relay for Life, and

WHEREAS,   Robyn Rodriguez has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award, therefore, be it

WHEREAS,   Bruce Desmarais, who will graduate from Eastern Connecticut State University Connecticut State University with his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Political Science, has been vice president of the ECSU Economics Club; a member of the national political science honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha; the international honors society in economics, Omicron Delta Epsilon; a recipient of several scholarships and awards including taking first prize in the international division of the ECSU Excellence Expo; a volunteer for the Killingly youth football league; and a certified adult literacy tutor with the Literacy Volunteers of Northeastern Connecticut, and

WHEREAS,   Bruce Desmarais has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award, therefore, be it

WHEREAS,   Jamie Leigh Grace-Alvarado, who will graduate from Southern Connecticut State University Connecticut State University with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish, has held the positions of representative-at-large, corresponding secretary, board of constitutional review chair, vice president and president of Southern's student government association; a hall council member; new student orientation leader and admissions tour guide; a member of the women's track and field team; athlete and team manager for the women's cross country team; a volunteer/official for Special Olympics; a volunteer for Friends of Rudolph, Adopt-A-Family, Southern and Hamden Achieving Reading Excellence; a Spanish tutor through ConnCap; and a volunteer official for Women's Track and Field, and

WHEREAS,   Margarita Aspuru has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award, therefore, be it

WHEREAS,   Steven Ortiz, who will graduate from Western Connecticut State University Connecticut State University with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education, served as president of the Collegiate Music Educator's National Conference chapter; taught general music classes at the Alternative Center of Education in Danbury; served on the executive board of the Education Club; performed as a soloist and as a member of numerous Western musical ensembles; played in several of Western's theater art's musical productions; served as director of the Sons of Portugal School of Music; was musical director/conductor of the Sherman Playhouse's production of "A Chorus Line;" was an assistant in the Steel Drum Band program with the Summer Music Programs at the Danbury Music Center; and has voluntarily taught piano to several Danbury-area students whose parents could not afford private lessons, and

WHEREAS,   Michelle Nelson, who will graduate from Western Connecticut State University Connecticut State University with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English/Professional Writing, has served as resident assistant, office assistant and academic resource mentor at Western; received a Merit Scholarship and four awards from the Department of Housing and Residential Life for the highest cumulative GPA in her residence hall; was named 2003 PASS Member of the Year; has served as a Peer Academic Support Services tutor in English, vice president of the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta and president of the Hall Council at Wellesley Inn, and

WHEREAS,   Michelle Nelson has been selected by the Connecticut State University System Foundation to receive its Henry Barnard Distinguished Student Award, therefore, be it
