Southern Connecticut State University's Past Projects

  • The new Michael J. Adanti Student Center opened in the fall of 2007. The $36.5 million, four-story, 125,000-square-foot student center is more than three times the size of the former building. Its amenities include a 200-seat movie theater, a fitness center, a ballroom/conference room that can seat 500 people, a game room, an aerobics room, a new Barnes and Noble bookstore and a food court. • The new addition to Engleman Hall, Southern’s main academic building, was completed in time for the fall 2005 semester. Renovations featured 70,000 square feet of new space and an overhaul of 163,000 square feet of existing space. The project allowed Southern to consolidate all non-science departments of the School of Arts and Sciences in one location. Engleman houses faculty offices, teaching laboratories, classrooms, student service groups and senior university administration.

  • Another addition to campus is a new building for the nursing department, located off Fitch Street near Davis Hall and the Facilities Operations Building. The new facility includes six faculty offices, a classroom, a lab and a lounge with computers.

  • Completion of the upgrade of Southern’s main power plant, upgrade of the central heating distribution system, and upgrade of the electrical distribution system on campus. The new 20,000 gross foot structure is the university’s primary source for campus-wide heating, primary electrical and emergency stand-by power.
  • A new 510 vehicle parking garage was completed near Jennings Hall and Pelz Gymnasium, with access from Fitch Street.
  • In 2005, the new West Campus Residence Hall was completed. The 300-bed residence hall utilizes the concept of “living suites,” with each unit containing four single rooms, a common living room, two bathrooms and storage closets. Common amenities include lounge space, study rooms, computer labs and laundry facilities.
