The Connecticut State University System is the largest public university system in Connecticut and consists of four comprehensive universities with more than 35,000 students and 180,000 alumni. Students from all 169 Connecticut towns, all 50 states, and 82 foreign nations attend CSUS universities Central, Eastern, Southern and Western Connecticut State Universities.

The Connecticut State University System offers affordable, accessible high-quality graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 160 subject areas and provide extensive opportunities for internships, community service and cultural engagement. In Connecticut, the Connecticut State University System awards the most bachelor's degrees in:
  • mathematics and statistics,
  • computer/information science & systems,
  • business administration and related degrees

CSUS also awards the most bachelor's degrees & post-baccalaureate certificates in education and has been the leader in awarding bachelor of science nursing degrees over the past five years. Two-thirds of Connecticut's current teachers attended a CSUS university.

The economic benefit of CSUS to the State of Connecticut has been estimated at $1.84 billion in 2008. At Central, Eastern, Southern and Western, CSUS is experiencing significant growth:
  • CSUS has more full-time students than ever before, increasing nearly 44% since 1996.
  • Total enrollment, including full-time and part-time students, is at the highest level in the past six years.
  • The total number of degrees conferred by Central, Eastern, Southern and Western reached an all-time high in 2008.
  • 93% of CSUS students are from Connecticut, and nearly 9 of 10 remain in Connecticut after graduation
  • Students transferring from Connecticut Community Colleges continues to increase, up 46% since 2001.
