Chancellor David G. Carter

We are four, and we are one.

Four outstanding comprehensive universities, connected to one another so that we can better respond to the aspirations of more than 35,000 students, and assist Connecticut in addressing its needs, thereby having an impact on the nation and society as a whole.

What we do at the four universities of the Connecticut State University System is transformative.

At Central, Eastern, Southern and Western, we provide the maximum priority to promoting academic and student development programs of the highest quality. In doing so, we stimulate the intellectual, economic, and social vitality of Connecticut through the preparation of lifelong learners whose civic responsibility, research, scholarship, and professional practices accrue to the benefit of the state, nation, and the international community.

In teaching and technology, engineering and nursing, biology and business, meteorology and mathematics, and scores more cutting edge fields of endeavor, we provide first-rate higher education. The Connecticut State University System is truly preparing today’s students for the world of tomorrow that we can only imagine.

We are proud that 86% of our students remain in Connecticut after graduation to learn, to work, and to live -- contributing to the cultural enrichment of the state, energizing intellectual discourse, advancing volunteerism and civic engagement, and strengthening the state's economic competitiveness.

Evolving circumstances require that we adjust what we do and how we do it, but our values and commitment to fairness, justice, and the pursuit of excellence does not change.

It is my vision that the Connecticut State University System will be recognized as an exemplar among its kind, meeting in full the educational needs of the citizens of Connecticut and the nation within a global society.

That is precisely the work that is now underway at Central, Eastern, Southern and Western – the Connecticut State University System. Welcome!
